Miami Design District

A bit classier than Edgewater, the Design District is still all about ethnic diversity, arts, and apartments in high-rises. This northeastern neighborhood of Miami offers single-family houses for rent from the era of roaring twenties, renovations in process. The district today offers multiple boutiques, restaurants, and shops that any residential area longs for.

Ovewrview

The Design District, Florida started as a pineapple grove turned Decorators’ Row turned the artistic and shopping hub of Magic City. Warehouse spaces that used to showroom furniture and home-design wares now converted into art galleries (lots of them still free, embracing the true laid-back spirit of the now-upscale Miami Design District). Even today, the historic value of the Design District is a big deal. Moore Building, historical center of the Design District, is a space for of parties and events. Palm Court features one of the most amazing entrances to its parking space, the prototype of R. Buckminster Fuller’s Fly’s Eye Dome, concurrently the icon of the Design District. But you can still just roam the streets: they’re few but art-packed, with some of the best Miamian public art created by the locals, the waft of the famous Wynwood Walls several blocks away.

Business & Economy

One of the major attractions of Miami, the Design District experience influx of high-end retailers during the last couple of decades. The flagship design stores like Hermes, Dior, Cartier, and Louis Vuitton concentrated in Palm Court, Jungle Plaza, and Miami Design District emporium. Aside from fashion, the numerous art galleries and restaurants keep people occupied and happy. Besides, there are still multiple deluxe furniture stores that celebrate the historic beginnings of the Design District, Miami.

Demographics

Half of the population African Americans, over third Hispanics, the Design District is obviously one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Miami. Besides, around fifth of the residents don’t speak English all too well – you really need to remember your Spanish lessons. The area’s always full with young energized residents drawn by astral scale of art and fashion; but it’s also a laid-back place that doesn’t squeeze you into the suit of the snobbishly affluent neighborhoods of Brickell and Coral Gables.

Entertainment

Hit the Institute of Contemporary Art for some modern cutting edge art and the de la Cruz Collection for upbeat lectures and workshops. Shop at the Farmers’ Market #atMDD functioning on Wednesdays at Jungle Plaza, and surely don’t forget about high-end boutiques of Palm Court. Got hungry after the shopping frenzy? The Design District, Miami is the happening spot for foodies: stellar menu from fresh seafood to wood-fired pizzas at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, maniacally perfect Cuban traditional of Estefan Kitchen, or slow coffee and quick lunch at OTL will satisfy the quirkiest of tastes.
