This house was designed by Dr Mark Dewsbury, Centre for Sustainable Architecture, University of Tasmania. Mark has designed a house that, on the edge of a World Heritage National Park, aims to capture Tasmania's alpine heartland. The house is a highly efficient solar passive design, capturing the warmth from the sun and releasing it at night. There is also an air-based heat pump that heats the concrete slab of the house. Insulation is extensive with double glazing throughout. The 100 acres that the house is on was clear-felled 30 years before purchase and now, 50 years on, the forest is thriving.
